Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary


Ten since the launch of what would be known as the game that revolutionized first-person shooters, Halo: Combat Evolved is back.  The developers over at 343 Industries were generous to give the game a complete graphics overhaul as well as achievements to bring us back to the single-player campaign we grew to enjoy.

Campaign Achievements


All together there are 16 campaign related achievements worth 410 gamerscore points. You’ll receive ten of them by completing each level within the campaign, three for completing one level co-operatively on Normal, Heroic, and Legendary difficulty, and three more for completing the entire game on Normal, Heroic, and Legendary difficulty. 

Note: In the case of Combat Evolved achievements stack, meaning that if you choose to complete the game on Legendary you’ll also receive the achievements for completing it on Normal and Heroic as well.

Collectibles & Hidden Items


Skulls: All together there are 13 skulls hidden throughout the single player campaign.  By collecting them all you’ll receive 3 achievements, Looks like the Oddball, Skulls Taken, and Headhunter worth a total of 85 gamerscore points. For a complete look at their locations, please refer to the guide provided.

Warning: Skulls are not visible in classic mode and can only be found when the game’s graphics are remastered.

Terminals: All together there are 10 terminals hidden throughout the single player campaign.  By finding them all you’ll receive 3 achievements, What have we here?, Heavy Reading, and Dear Diary worth a total of 60 gamerscore points. 1. Looks like the Oddball (10G)


Description: Found your first Campaign Skull

2. What do we have here? (10G)


Description: Found your first terminal

Refer to Terminal Guide.

3. Overshields are for sissies (10G)


Description: Complete “Pillar of Autumn” on Legendary without picking up an overshield

Although you may not necessarily be able to pick up an overshield it doesn’t mean that you can’t complete this level using another controller cooperatively. Before starting the level, change game mode to co-op and sign in additional player or in this case a “dummy controller”.  Use this controller to complete the level and leave the one tied to your account inactive.

4. Walk it off (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Pillar of Autumn” on Legendary without picking up a health kit.

Refer to the method used for Overshields are for sissies.

5. He’s Unstoppable (20G)


Description: Complete any level on Heroic or Legendary without taking Health Damage.

Refer to the method used for Overshields are for sissies.

6. The Pillar of Autumn (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Pillar of Autumn” on any difficulty.

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

7. Standard Operating Procedure (10G)


Description: Complete one level on Normal in Co-op mode.

8. Brovershield (20G)


Description: Complete one level on Heroic in Co-op mode.

9. Bro Hammer


Description: Complete one level on Legendary in Co-op mode.

10. No-Fly Zone (10G)


Description: Destroy 3 banshees on the level “Halo” on any difficulty.

All together there are 4 banshees within this level.  You’ll encounter the first two towards the beginning of the level just after crossing the bridge.  The next two banshees are found within the mountainous area after rescuing the first group of human survivors.

11. How Pedestrian (25G)


Description: Beat the level “Halo” without ever entering a vehicle.

There are two methods in getting this achievement.  The first is traditionally travelling by foot. The only obstacle you’ll face in doing so is making it over the first gap within the underground tunnel.  To do so you must do a grenade jump.  The second and preferred method is to play cooperatively and have the player signed complete the remaining duration of the level.

12. Halo (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Halo” on any difficulty.

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

13. All according to plan…(10G)


Description: Kill all of the enemies in the first encounter on “Truth & Reconciliation” without being detected.

Just as the level begins, proceed over towards the mound to the right. Position yourself in front of the rock formation and prepare to silently take out the enemies within the next area.  Within this area you’ll find an Elite accompanied by two Jackals and roughly six Grunts.  You’ll know when you’ve cleared the entire area when the marines move into the area themselves.

14. Close Quarters Combat (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Truth and Reconciliation” with at least 4 rounds left in your sniper rifle

You’ll start the level with 48 sniper rounds.  To prevent ammo depletion, activate the Bandanna Skull for unlimited ammo.

15. Truth and Reconciliation (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Truth and Reconciliation” on any difficulty

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

16. Beachhead (10G)


Description: Storm the beach on “Silent Cartographer” without losing any marines on Heroic or Legendary difficulty.

Before attempting this achievement, activate the Bandanna Skull and the Boom Skull.  To lower the chances of fatality, choose to play on Heroic difficulty.  You’ll start out with 7 marines.  The key to their survival is to lead from the front.  Disregard the use of your assault rifle or pistol and rely solely on frag grenades.  As soon as you drop down from the Pelican, take out the Grunts on the front line.  Proceed up the shore and eliminate the next group of enemies followed by the ones underneath the arch of the facility.

17. Grenadier (25G)


Description: Escape the map room on “Silent Cartographer” without firing off a single shot on Heroic or Legendary

Before attempting this achievement, activate the Bandanna Skull for unlimited grenades.  To lower your chances of fatality, choose to play on Heroic difficulty.  Just refrain from using either of the two firearms within your arsenal and this achievement shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

18. The Silent Cartographer (25)


Description: Complete the level “Silent Cartographer” on any difficulty.

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

19. Skulls Taken! 25(G)


Description: Discover half of the skulls hidden throughout the Campaign

20. Heavy Reading (25G)


Description: Read half of the terminals hidden throughout the Campaign.

Refer to Terminal Guide.

*21. Wraith Hunter (10G)


Description: Destroy 4 wraiths on the level “Assault on the Control Room” with a scorpion tank.

Once you first enter the scorpion, head back towards where you found the warthog.  The wraith that you saw previously should appear below the ledge.  Just before the underground tunnel you should find an additional Wraith accompanied by a group of Covenant.

From the previous Wraith look up and you'll see yet another above the entrance to the underground tunnel.  As you emerge from the  tunnel, you should find the fourth and final wraith towards the far end of the canyon.

22. I’ll be Taking That (25G)


Description: Fly a Banshee on the level “Assault on the Control Room”.

Towards the end of the level, you'll come to a snow-covered bridge. On this bridge are two banshees.  Your job is to board either of them before the two Elite nearby.  In preparation for this achievement, grab the sniper rifle where you first find the Warthog.  As the door opens to the bridge, snipe the Elite closest to the first Banshee.  Once he's killed you should be able to board it with no problem.

23. Assault on the Control Room (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Assault on the Control Room” on any difficulty.

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

24. This Ones for Jenkins! (10G)


Description: Kill 50 Flood Combat Forms on the level “343 Guilty Spark” on Heroic difficulty or higher.

This achievement will come naturally as you progress through the level.  Flood Combat Forms yield guns and are best dealt with while using a shotgun.

25. Breaking Quarantine (25G)


Description: Escape the Forerunner Facility on the level “343 Guilty Spark” in under 21 minutes.

21 minutes should be more than enough time to escape the facility.  To approach this achievement best, make sure not to engage in any unnecessary firefights.  If you do so happen to find yourself in a bind the best weapon to use is your shotgun.

26. 343 Guilty Spark (25G)


Description: Complete the level “343 Guilty Spark” on any difficulty.

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

27. That Just Happened (10G)


Description: Complete the level “The Library” on Heroic or Legendary without dying.

Although it would be easier to play through this level on Heroic, you're best bet is to complete this achievement in conjunction with Speed Reader.  Before attempting this achievement, activate the Bandanna Skull for unlimited ammo and grenades.  Rely mainly on your shotgun and also use frag grenades to take the Flood in large groups.  If you feel that things get a little too overwhelming, revert to your last save, it won’t count against this achievement.

 

28. Speed Reader (25G)


Description: Complete the level “The Library” on Legendary in under 30 minutes.

As stated in the achievement above, activate the Bandanna Skull for unlimited ammo and grenades.  Rely mainly on your shotgun and also use frag grenades to take the Flood in large groups.  For the most pratical route, refer to the video above.

29. The Library (25G)


Description: Complete the level “The Library” on any difficulty.

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

30. Look out for the little guys (10G)


Description: Beat the level “Two Betrayals” on Heroic or Legendary without killing any grunts.

Although you may not necessarily be able to kill any of the Grunts doesn’t mean that you can’t complete this level using another controller cooperatively. Before starting the level, change game mode to co-op and sign in additional player or in this case a “dummy controller”.  Use this controller to complete the level and leave the one tied to your account inactive.

31. Leave it where it lay (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Two Betrayals” on Legendary without picking up a new weapon.

Refer to Look out for the little guys.

32. Two Betrayals (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Two Betrayals” on any difficulty.

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

33. Tying up loose ends (10G)


Description: Kill every elite on the level “Keyes” on Heroic or Legendary

As the description states, you must kill every elite within the level.  That being said make sure that you thoroughly cler each area leaving no traces of enemies behind.  For the most part the eleites within the level are visible within plain site.  Towards the very end of the level just make sure to search within the lower corridors.

34. Popcorn.gif (25G)


Description: Kill 100 Infection form flood on the level “Keyes” on Heroic or Legendary

This achievement should come naturally as you progress through the level.  Just make sure to eliminate the enemies that emerge from the infected form flood.

35. Keyes (25G)


Description: Complete the level “Keyes” on any difficulty

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

36. This side up (10G)


Description: Complete the warthog Circuit on “The Maw” without being forcibly ejected from your seat

As the description states you must no be ejected from your warthog.  For the most pratical driving route refer to Never tell me the odds.

37. Never Tell Me The Odds (25G)


Description: Complete the Warthog circuit on “The Maw” on Legendary with over a minute left on the clock left.

Although this achievement may seem difficult from start rest assured with enough practice and familiarization this circuit can be completed with several seconds to spare.  The key to this is to take your time.

38. Dear Diary (50G)


Description: Read all of the Terminals hidden throughout the Campaign.

39. Headhunter 50(G)


Description: Locate all of the skulls hidden throughout the campaign.

Refer to Skull Guide.

40. The Maw (25G)


Description: Complete the level “The Maw” on any difficulty.

Campaign related; cannot be missed.

41. Birth of a Spartan (10G)


Description: Complete the Campaign on Normal.

Refer to Campaign Achievements.

42. Believe in a Hero (20G)


Description: Complete the Campaign on Heroic.

Refer to Campaign Achievements.

43. Living Legend (50G)


Description: Complete the Campaign on Legendary.

Refer to Campaign Achievements.

44. Tsantsa (50G)


Description: Complete any level with 3 skulls activated on Heroic or Legendary.

The majority of skulls within the game serve to make the gameplay a bit of an inconvience.  Surprisingly there are three skulls that are actually beneficial and should be used to get this acheivement; Bandanna, Boom, and Piñata.  To take a look at their complete locations be sure to refer to the guide provided.
